How to track subscriptions in the UK

The average UK household pays for subscriptions it forgot it had. Here's how to find every recurring payment, track the renewal dates, and keep only what you actually use.

Last updated: October 2026

Find every subscription you pay for

  • Go through 12 months of bank statements — annual subscriptions only appear once a year.
  • Check Direct Debits and recurring card payments in your banking app.
  • Look at Apple subscriptions (Settings → Apple ID → Subscriptions) and Google Play subscriptions.
  • Don't forget PayPal preapproved payments, Amazon Subscribe & Save, and free trials that rolled into paid plans.

Decide what stays and what goes

  • For each subscription, ask: did I use it in the last month? Would I miss it tomorrow?
  • Annual plans: set a reminder a month before renewal — that's your decision point, not the renewal email.
  • Look for duplicates: two music services, three streaming platforms doing the same job.
  • Downgrade before you cancel — a cheaper tier of something you half-use beats paying full price.

Track them so they can't sneak back

Add every surviving subscription to UK Bill Tracker — free, no card required. You'll get a reminder before each renewal date, see the true monthly cost of all subscriptions added together, and spot immediately when a price creeps up.
